The Ultimate Classic Prawn Cocktail – Made Easy with Frozen Prawns

If you love a retro starter that feels fancy without being complicated, you’re going to adore this Classic Prawn Cocktail! It’s creamy, cool, a little bit zingy, and surprisingly simple to make at home. One of the best tricks? Using high-quality frozen prawns—they’re already cleaned, perfectly sized, and taste just as delicious as fresh.


Whether you’ve picked up frozen prawns from your favourite supermarket, wholesale supplier, or you keep a bag ready in the freezer for quick dinners, this recipe delivers restaurant flavour with hardly any effort. Just defrost, mix, chill, and enjoy a nostalgic seafood favourite that always looks impressive on the table!


Makes 4-6


Ingredients


  • 1 little gem lettuce, shredded 

  • 4 heaped tbsp mayonnaise 

  • 2 tbsp tomato ketchup 

  • a few shakes of Tabasco (to taste) 

  • 2 tsp horseradish  

  • 2 spring onions, thinly sliced 

  • 10cm cucumber, peeled, deseeded and finely diced 

  • 500g Sunny Seafood Cooked Prawn PTO (16/20)

  • 2 lemon wedges 

  • Pinch of paprika 


Instructions


  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the mayo, ketchup, Tabasco, horseradish and paprika. Adjust to taste.

  2. Add spring onion and lemon juice and stir through well.

  3. Divide Lettuce evenly between the glasses.

  4. Add the diced cucumber on top of the lettuce.  

  5. Scoop the cocktail sauce on top of the lettuce and cucumber. 

  6. Arrange prawns around the rim of the glass to finish.
